This is a website prepared by the Religion, Philosophy and Ethics Faculty of Ballarat and Queens Anglican Grammar School to lead students through an investigation of the historical arguments for and against the existence of a Supreme Being.

The Philosophers’ arguments featured in this activity include: St Thomas Aquinas, Blaise Pascal, Ludwig Feuerbach and William Paley.

The Faculty would like to acknowledge Mr Brian Poxon a former Chair of Faculty for the work done in designing this activity. A key resource used is Looking for Proof of God by Robert Kirkwood, Illustrated by Edward McLachlan. Longman 1990

 Student Information:

In a class of 24 students, each Legal Team will be made up of three students with one appointed as the speaker and two as their Legal Advisers. The team will create the speech together and in the event that the speaker is absent, one of the legal advisers will give the speech on their behalf. In a class greater than 24, timekeeper, photographer etc… are all valuable additions.

Each Legal Team is allocated 5 minutes of speaking time.

Legal Teams should give careful consideration to props, gowns etc… They should also appoint a photographer to capture vital moments of each team’s speech.

At the conclusion ofallof the speeches each member of the class will vote on the most persuasive legal team. Students are not permitted to vote for their own team.

The running order is reproduced below.
